Hi Dave,
I was thinking on the D2 TD5 engine.
Sorry to all if i caused any confusion.

OK mate that's cool.
1. The biggest single thing to check is the condition of the chassis, particularly the rear part of the chassis - from the rear axle to the rear bumper. What you often find is that the rectangular cross section has started to rust and there starts to deform and 'blow'. In really bad cases there will be holes. It is possible to repair it but it costs big money to do properly unless you can do the welding yourself.

2. Mechanicals - even if the car you intend to buy has "Full Service History" you will almost certainly need to go through it from front to back - in part to establish the 'actual' condition,but also more likely to make a list of the most common jobs to do.
A. Check the ECU plugs and sockets for oil contamination - this can cause rough running and is cured by replacing the injector loom - part cost about £30;
B. Check/clean the MAP (Manifold Absolute Pressure) sensor on the inlet manifold - this get coated with a tar-like substance and causes - yes you guessed it - rough running.
C. Changed al filters and fluids - this means the oils in the engine, both gearboxes, both diffs; coolant; brake fluid.
D. Check the condition of the brake discs and pads, replace as necessary.
E. Check condition of ACE (if fitted) pipes. These are prone to rust and are expensive to repair.
F. Check the functioning on low gear and the Hill Decent Control.
Electrical:
Check all windows to ensure they function up and down electrically;
Check remote central locking with all keys/fobs with the car;
Check aircon/Climate Control;
There's a start anyway,
Good luck
Dave
