Burnt out - rebuild

Yesterday I parked up the 110 outsides a friends house and was called back about an hour later to this:

It looks to have been caused by electrics as it has started under the bonnet on the drivers side so away from the turbo and exhaust.

It is currently loaded onto the car trailer and tucked into the back of a friends barn in the West Country so at some point I will drag it back to the midlands to start looking at it properly.

I am currently on a stag do so insurance etc will Need to wait until Monday. But I am wanting to rebuild it as I am
Rather attached to it. I am am open to all the collective wisdom and suggestion you have for both dealing with the insurance company and the work required after to rebuild!
 
Sorry to see your motor in this way...
So you need to make a list of what will need replacing before you think of buying back from the insurance.
Hopefully it’s just bulkhead(full rebuild) ,doors that took the brunt of the heat.loom & under bonnet plastic/rubber

Internal dash / loom and heater / radio and all that gubbins ...
 
It may not require as much work as it looks but the insurance company may be arses about letting you put it back on the road as that's pretty extensive. Not horrendously bad but I've seen better lol. Out of the dash I think your raptor unit might be alright, the rest is for the bin I'm afraid. A whole new loom will be needed as well as windscreen and frame, new door tops, definitely new hoses and whatnot for the engine although I'd be looking at getting that cylinder head professionally rebuilt just incase. The bulkhead itself might still be solid but I would factor that in as needing replaced as well. Overall its a lot of work, doable certainly but still a lot of work.Need to decide whether your emotional attachment to it makes it worth it

Buy it back from the insurance for 30/- ...:D:D

The list does not matter. It is the first car I ever bought and I have had it since I was 18. Although it is not money no object, regardless of cost it will Be bought back And rebuilt. How much it costs will just determine how long it takes.
 
Sorry to see that,:( careful when stripping it as some burnt rubbers/plastics can produce poisonous substance's.
I was lucky a few years ago when a fire started in mine I just happened to be nearby working on something else when smoke filled the air. Fire extinguisher and spanner to disconnect batt saved the day.

  1. start by turning freshly laundered 100% cotton grundies inside out
  2. #set iron to cotton/*** and gently iron internal area paying special attention to gusset
  3. turn grundies outside in
  4. liberally spray starch to rear arse area, allow to absorb and iron with mid-high heat
  5. turn over grundies crotch side up
  6. #liberally spray starch to crotch and family jewel fly area, allow to absorb and iron paying close attention to side waste area ensuring no creases
# if using steamer iron reduce iron setting to **

My preference is for starching levels that enable grundies to be self standing :D

The call to the insurance is a job for tomorrow. I have not dealt with insurance for something like this before. Is there a chance they will write it off to a state where is cannot be rebuilt and put back on the road?
