Bumper Colours?

I recently replaced my rear bumper (old one was cracked) and it is a slightly lighter 'black' than the original one and so looks a bit faded. Are there different 'blacks' used on the Hippo?

I have tried Autoglym Bumper Care and while it is a big improvement, it still looks a bit grey when compared to the rest of the car.

Is there anything on the market which will actually make the plastic black again?

Was told to try a hot air gun ie paint stripper, but to be very careful near the paintwork. Haven't tried myself, I'd be tempted to remove the panels first.

The early vehicles were grey bumpers and then went black at a minor facelift in I think '02/'03.

As AllanI says looks like you've picked up a pre 02 facelift bumper and unless you want to spray it you'll never get it black....

I should have said that my one is a 2002 pre facelift TD4. The colour difference is very slight but noticeable - interesting idea about the heatgun
