What's your opinion on a bull bar DIY out of scaffolding tubes with a wraparound to the door hinge
Illegal? What's your opinion on a bull bar DIY out of scaffolding tubes with a wraparound to the door hinge
Not on a td5 I'm sureIllegal?
I have a series bull bar painted with bright green but I have a lot of old scaffolding tubes so I thought of making my ownIMO,
Bull bars that have wraparounds a rubbish, If they bend then they can cause more damage to the wing and make any repair more difficult. My Father had one on his 90 and a beast bent it back into the wing.
A home made one, may also have the potential to pass on any impact force to the chassis and thus cause damage there.
Cheers
Not on a td5 I'm sure
Bull bars on eBay are £150 but I'm sure this breaker on anglsey could cut me a deal or I'll have to use the series bull barOfficially LR were not allowed to sell a vehicle with one fitted after ( and I may be wrong) some time in 2007 ish, I think that is when they went with the girlie foam A bars you now see fitted. I have also heard of some people having a problem with insurance when they have said it has a full bull bar fitted, altho this may be just one insurers particular foible.
But aftermarket ones are still available as far as I am aware. As for homemade ones, I would wonder how would the corners be finished etc, to stop a sharp corner. Plus the issues if you did come a cropper and hit someone.
There are a couple of links to the particular "laws" in this link. After doing a quick search.

Is it the same for diy roll cages
Company made ones are very deer and I'm sure a scaffolding tubes are stronger than the roll cage that came on my td5 black editionNo Idea, But then I would never consider a homemade roll cage, to meet the MSRA regs they need to be certain steel grades, thickness and follow a set of design rules that have been established. Other than that they are purely for looks and that is not of interest to me personally.

The one that is on the outside that goes round the windshieldHave a shufti here.

i got offered 8 legs of venison for £40 today. Do you think that's two deer?Company made ones are very deer
Is this a genuine questioni got offered 8 legs of venison for £40 today. Do you think that's two deer?
Of course it's not "two deer", they were all back legs!i got offered 8 legs of venison for £40 today. Do you think that's two deer?
Only a hi cap can carry the loads and it's not going to get "trashed "In all seriousness, Evan, I get the impression you may not yet have a driving licence. Be aware of current values of land rovers / hi cap pickups. With your new engine in and made presentable, you could probably buy 2 suzukis or jeeps to trash around a farm, still have loads of change in the bank and no regrets
Like the one on my profile pic?Scaffold tube works Ok , did it about 45 years ago on a series before you could buy such a thing in UK ,
don't brace it down wing back to A post , but over top of wheel opening and then dog leg down onto bottom of
A post. This is a safety measure , otherwise if you have a hard contact in front the bar transmits the force straight back to A post , bends it back and you cant open door , with the dog leg the side bar protects side of wing, and the kink in the tube acts like a "fuse" so tube bends instead of bending A post . It works well to help beasts move or even push vehicles
As for transmitting loads to bend chassis if its that much force the chassis will be bending any way allbeit a few milliseconds later
