Has anyone used/welded the Bulkhead Repair Panels (Corners ones that always rot) well all of it rots!!. On a defender and if so what,s involved???.

I,ve got the panels bought from Paddocks, looks to me like the wings have to come off, doors also so the hinge comes off and the bonnet.

Is that the case??. The last big bit of welding i did was the rear cross member and am hopeing its not going to be a drama like that job!!.

Seems odd that there's no walk through picture wise like most other work that's been done.

I didn't take the wings off, well I had one off but that was because of something else. Other one was on still and it was fine, plus re0fitting a wing is a pain in the arse.

Check my rebuild thread you can see what needs to be hacked off and where they go back, it's **** easy really just a bit of a pain to do

And there will be a walkthrough somewhere

Arc,

That's a briiliant walkthrough job done nice one. The only problem is my 110 is a daily hack so only got the weekend to do the job. The bulkheads shagged and have patched it up in other places with plate.

The panels fit just in line with the very top of the wing and it looks like unless I cut out the metal from the dash side (Without taking the wing off) all I'll be able to do is slide the panel in and then weld what I can see above. Then blob car sealer round any gaps.

Just a ball ache falling apart just as the weather changes!.

i have done one side, but i still havent done the drivers side, so i still have wet feet..

i just tot the repair patch and cut the bulkhead to fit the patch to get the most out of the new metal. however i would cut the bottom inch or so off as it was a ball ache around the lip thing that the bonnet hooks onto..

I have just patched with some YRM panels.. what concerns me is they seem very thin to hold the door hinge on. I may put some backing behind.. its so difficult to tell what was there originally as it looks like the main bulkhead edge came all the way up and the patch panel replacing this (i.e top hinge element) is just not the same strength.

The bulkhead is double skinned where things like he door /windscreen are attached.
The repair panels are outermost and you need to build up the inner pieces as necessary. 1.2mm outer skin will not suffice on its own.
