nothing wrong with mine but am thinking of a galv bulk head as my next project.
has any one tried making one themselves? is it even something that can be done?
i have steel cutting, bending and welding equip and can get galv work done quite cheap.

i know with the Series 1 ones the company which re-make them do all the steel bending and bashing themselves except for the centre dash part - they have to recover this from an old bulkhead as they can't re-make it. (No idea why)

I would work on the theory that yes it would be possible, but, is it really worth all the effort? Could you not just strip and repair your current one and get it dipped? (Some people are concerned about dipping second hand stuff as it can warp it...)

yeh i could but what would be the fun in that?

the idea was to make one or repair as you suggest, and when its perfect stick it on the truck.

that way i can continue to use the old girl while i undertake the time consuming bits at my leasure.

i am toying with the idea of a galv chassis too. funny isnt it? you buy a "cheap" 4x4 for the bad weather, get a landy as its cheap to insure, free to tax and the mpg on the diesel is ok, so you save money. next thing you know you become deluded, addicted and skint.

Tell me about it! After the landy i got a classic car to replace the day car too, cheap ins, free tax and a bit of fun...i thought. still got the 'day car' (disco) and still re-building the classic car for day use as well as the series to keep running and modifying.

On the plus side, i don't have to heat the house as i spend all my time outside working on cars!

If you have the time, energy and skills you might as well go for attempting to build one - you could see if you can pick up a rusted old one as a template to help you?

I could Deffinatly build one from scratch
I would need an old scrap unit for template and some parts would be best bought and fitted like the door pillars but the rest of it can be built to you own spec
You could make the vents bigger or reposition the dash plate things like that

I got a series 3 bulkhead in my garage waiting for me to sort out one day
Don't mind lending that out if it helps

I'm not worried about it being sorted as it will be modified to hell when I get around to it
I'm in Surrey not far from the a3 and m3 postcode area kt12
