For reasons which I do not understand myself I am obssesed with the idea of starting my landy every morning with a cranck (it is starting well with the switch). I can not find a cranck where I am or any detailed picture of one so I can build it.
Can anyone supply a drawing or instrucion as how to build one? I know it is a simple thing but dimensions and thickness and exact shape of the tip must be important so I hope some one has it.
thanks a million in advance and may life let you live your silly desires :)

i wouldnt have tried on a diesel

I was young and had been watching war films where they swing the prop and the 'plane fires...

Thumb in wrong place + a mahoosive swing = Swearing

:D

Never tried it on a denzil again, 2 1/2 P are bad enough!

As long as it fits the actual measurements probably aren't too critical. A length of rod slightly smaller than the internal diameter of the dog bolted to the pulley, a pin the length of the outer diameter of the dog and the same diameter as the width of the slots in the dog positioned the distance from the end of the slots to the depth of the hole in the pulley, stick a bend the distance from the dog to the bumper plus a bit, 20cm or so and another bend for the handle.

Still cheaply available new. I use a Rover P4 starting handle that I have extended to fit my 88. It is a diesel so I do not attempt starting but use it for tappet setting/timing etc.

Make sure you buy a pair of heavy gloves too, as even the petrol can give you a fair crack on the hand when it kicks. There is something very satisfying about being able to start with a handle though, and of course if you have a flat battery, it's really useful.

It's all in the technique - both hands on the handle, both thumbs out of the way. Bloody useful for turning the engine over with your knees when bent over adjusting the points....
