Yes, they acid dip the chassis to clean it first, but they dont want paint and 20 years of rust, dirt and general crap dirting up their tank. most places look for old metal to be sandblasted first, but even that will only clean the externals. i am told that some places will give it an acid double dip, subject to extra charge, but they still want it clean comming to them. Ask them before you leave it with them.

If there wasn't much in it, new metal over possible old thinner metal obviously would be better.

From what i was told( i was considering galving mine) there is no way to 100% get the rust out from inside a chassis because you cant see it. Years of rust and corrosion just can not be destroyed by a little acid passing over it. It needs working in and something abrasive to remove it.

You need to prep the area, then acid dip it, then galv it. How do you prep the inside of a chassis?

With a used old chassis the advice given to me and another forum member who i was with at the time is to shot/sand blast it then paint it.

Others may have been told different or say different.

This is of course what i have been told and i will make an educated decision based on it.

7 years later and I eventually got my 1989 Ninty original chassis galvanised. I think it's a great job. Cost 113 euro, cheeper than paint, and it's good on the inside too.

Got my Origional Chassis shot blasted then Galved they done a great job. A lot cheaper then buying new Galvanised one.
Most Galvaniser's now wont dip old steel, the ones that do Inspect them first for any oil or paint, even on the inside, if they are not blasted properly they will not dip them and send them away. Pics of mine before and after.
