What main earth straps do you have? Normally there'd be one from battery to chassis and one from chassis to engine block (usually bell housing). Not a bad idea to put one from starter body to engine block as well if you haven't got one.

Only way to clean them is to undo and clean back to shiney metal.

Yep got all usual straps and 1 already from starter to engine gonna start cleaning them up later will let you no how that goes.

Yeah have connected lead from - on battery to engine block and had power to ignition for first time. When turned key to start just clicking from starter ! 12.8v on battery ! Gonna clean earth straps and see if that works!

Ah that's a good Sign although I would expect it to fire, you may want to sand down your positive terminals too. Is it the starter clivking? If not then I'd look for a high resistance contact. (dirty contact) pull all of your engine earths and lives off, lightly sand the terminals and mount points and that should sort you.

If after that your still struggling tap the starter solenoid with a bar and try again as that could be sticking.

Don't forget to clean the battery poles, these oxidise and cause problems as well. I had this problem on an old Ford Zephur and it was because the battery poles had oxidised and it had no power to any thing.

Hi folks THE BEAST LIVES. Thanks for all replies and advice well appreciated.
Now to share the cure , was a very complicated fix. Ok here goes when getting out of Lrover make sure your boots do not turn the battery isolator switch on which is sited on the front panel of drivers seat !!!! Ahh I love the simple things :)

Mmm yes a switch to isolate all power from battery a very good idea if you no its there!! I didn't but now I do I no if I get electrical fault when driving ie smoke from where it shouldn't be I can cut all power!! That's gotta be gud!!

Absolutely!!! I'm in the early learning stages of Lrover ownership but up for it and good to no help is out there ! Sure I'm gonna have more ?? Over time and hopefully be able to help / give advice as time goes on!
