Broken Crankcase Breather part

'05 TD4
Just changed my crankcase breather and had trouble getting the casing off as an inector pipe was in the way, whilst getting it off I broke a plastic valve thing inside, it has a long arm which slides into the housing and a hole which sits under the filter, I snapped the arm off

I have put it all back together as I need to car today with the arm in it's slot and the valve bit sitting below.
What does this do, is it needed, any idea of the part number?

I don't know if it will be available seperatley, one of the others may know.
You could always change it for updated bmw cyclonic filter or one of the guys who has done this may still have the old one and throw the bit you need your way.

Absolutely change it for the BMW one - £20 odd and worth every penny - engine feels better with it and it will do a better job.

Hi,

Rotten bad luck - but you should have read all the threads regards the breather valve in advance. Read them now - before you break anything else!!!!

You should have disconnected the feed pipes to the injectors first - then the job is easy. Beware the breaking the 'T' connector on the injectors - don't lever them up one side at a time - they will snap. Gently lift up with an open long nose pliers.

You should fit the BMW modified part. However as you have snapped of the filter / breather retaining arm - you need to get the whole top part cover from BMW.

As well as having the new type filter it comes complete with new rubber gaskets and the important O ring.

I read loads on doing this but didn't see anything about the pipes....
I now have the complete BMW bit inc housing and plan on fitting it tonight.

So these injector pipes.... do I just pull out the snap clip and lift the T piece as described here - straight upwards?

Is that the PN for just the cyclone filter?
The PN I have bought is 11127799224 which is the compete housing assy (£49).

Yep the other pn was fer just the filter, but as you'd snapped the retainer you needed the whole lot.
I'm trying to remember how I do mine...., I'm sure I just unnplug all the injectors and then unscrew the plate that holds the loom tidy and just move this out of the way to gain better access. I don't ever remember undoing any pipes as I have always managed to ease it out and back in without anything really obstructing it.

Yes you have the correct part - the complete thing.

Sorry the number I quoted you was only for the internal filter thingy.

It's important that you lift the 'T' piece connectors on the injectors evenly - trying to lift one side only will snap the one you're lifting right off at the join and you'll have to get a new one - no repair possible.

I used a long nosed pliers - just as a lifting device - NOT to grip it with.

After taking out the retaining clip just slide the open jaws of the pliers underneath the 'T' and gently wiggle it a little. Mine came off no problem at all, and refitted easily with no leaks. Be careful not to lose the spring clip - see other threads!!!!!

All done, used long nose pliers as suggested and the injector T's lifted out nicely. The new cyclone housing dropped on with no mods needed, no cutting etc.
Ta for all tips.
