As many of you know from previouse threads my 1997 300tdi discovery only travels one way, then the RAC have to bring it back.
Firstly broke down and found the cam belt arounf the bottom crank had stripped so only the crank shaft was turning. Fitted new cam belt did timing was running fine.
Shortage of fuel next, replaced fuel filter no better.
replaced lift pump stil same.
Removed fuel sended unit from tank but no blockage so fitted new fuel pipe from sended unit to the lift pump.
working no problem but over 50mph and hit a hill and it died in 5th gear, but will go up in 4th no problem.
Yesterday drove the 100 mile from my house no problem then it died, no fuel from the injector pump, did all the check on fuel supply, fuel all the way to the pump, pump turning over but no fuel to the injectors, gave it a blast of easy start and it would start but die when it was removed. Called RAC again to get me home, they did all there checks and said it was the fuel cut of soliniod.
To day went out and removed the black box covering the fuel cut off solinoid and removed solinoid to find plunger was stuck in pump.
Have removed plunger out of injector pump and refitted the solinoid hoping that it will prove that it was the problem but it refused to start.
so hoping for advise.
1. will the engine run with the black box covering the soliniod disconnected as I had to break it to get to the security screws so that it can be removed.
2. should it run with the plunger off the solinoid and the black covering removed
3. have I missed something of what is wrong and stopping it from running.
This is coming to the point of putting a match to it as it is becoming that much of a disappointement as car go, I have had many petrol range rovers befor and never given me any trouble, this is my first diesel discoverya dn it is a nightmare, desperate help needed please
