L322 Broke again... end of the road?

Very pleased you got sorted out it’s expensive enough owning these cars but your original garage has lost out in the end through sheer greed. I agree that even if you can’t do the work knowledge is king. I have a freelance mechanic that will let me buy the parts and just pay fitting.
Hopefully you get good mileage clocked up before you need to visit them again.
Tricky.

Great video, doesn't look like £1400 of work to me :D With the tools I think I could attempt that in future without too many issues.

I ended up letting the garage do the work, I also asked them to go through everything in detail and let me know what they could find.

My old garage had told me that I needed a new handbrake cable, as it was stretched and quoted £300 to replace so I expected to have to pay this. Turns out they had not connected one side of it  ... so that's been fixed FOC, honest of the new garage to tell me as I'd expected to pay for this.

Other things they found (but optional to repair as they said it would still get through an MOT):

- Front Brake pipes corroding - needed replacing at some point in the future
- Slight oil leak on NS - Nothing major, but it's there
- Needed 4 new tyres (I knew this - but wan't going to replace before I knew if I was keeping it)
- Needed 4x4 align after work

I was quoted for £1200 inc. VAT for all the above, including the bushes changed. On the back of the garage saying how good condition the car was in I decided to take the hit. The tyres were £100 each so happy with £800 for all this. Collect tomorrow and currently feel like a kid on Christmas Eve, can't wait to get back out in it again! Been driving an A3, which as fun as it's been to drive, it ain't a RR :D

I have just had to look at the age of your vehicle, due to the bit I've highlighted, as it has a bearing. If your brake pipes have not been replaced , front to back, they need done, and done soonest.
This is a known issue with the first generation L332. The pipes are tucked away, where they are rarely looked at. Until, that is, brake fluid starts dripping. If you have no proof of work having been done, get it on a ramp and get those looked at. Not next MoT, now.

Nice 1, yeah I told them to go ahead and get them done - not risking anything brake related! It's alot of car to stop! The back ones have been done less than a few thousand miles ago.

Ah sorry I misunderstood. I'll mention this to them now (as the cars still there). It is a LR specialist and I asked him to check everything in details so I'm hoping he did this, but definitely worth me call up to double check. Cheers for the tip

Welcome. As a specialist he should've known this. Just in case, tell him to pull back the plastic, all along and look properly. It's an easy job , for someone with the tools and work space, also not expensive.

Just checked - all done and fine, he said the same as you - it's often missed and MOT centres don't generally check the condition of these as they're behind the trim.

You're welcome.
Although not sure why you're bookmarking a different site, for something you were told about on this site ,in this thread, and, is mentioned, several times, in other threads, on this site.

Pleased you got a good result in the end. I use a guy in Russia who specialises in Ranges and was always good and reasonable and let me buy the parts as I got them quicker and better than he could, so he was always happy to work with good parts. A few years ago he chanced his arm when gave me a quote to do some work which I knew would need the oil and coolant draining to do the work. All good, went to pick up the beast and he then tells me it is extra now for the oil and anti freeze and on a 4.6 its a bit of good oil and anti freeze. Luckily enough he got the message to go away in short sharp jerky movements and that should have been taken into account for the job. Hands up OK OK. However, when he had the beast back again a year later for what I told him was a faulty cam sensor he didn't charge for the apparent hours of diagnosis. He couldn't really as I was correct in what the fault was. But he no longer tries to rip me off as he knows I am a good customer who happens to know what it needs. Yes still use him when I have to but Range Rover mechanics in Crimea are hard to find. However this winter will be doing my own rear airbag's and compressor repairs thanks to this site and Mark Piercy

Cheers and would take you up on it but even after all these years I still don't trust Russia post. Never had much go missing but sometimes my mail from uk arrives in my mailbox without the envelope. Post office says not possible but can't argue with them or nothing will arrive.

I do hope you have had a very slow drive past your old garage,if not when you do have a BIG smile on your face and wave a wad of cash a la Harry Enfield.
