ok so LynxEvo ... wasnt particularly inmpressed with it, but did something when I plugged it into the ODBC socket on my. 2004 TD5 defender.Problem is .....
I've a 1999 TD5 and all i get is the failed to communicate with the ECU message. Go through the sequence till i try selecting diagnostics, select lucas TD5 as an ecu type ... then nothing.

I emailed lynxevo@ britpart ..... on the 9th Dec, no reply

Getting grumpy as i have new injectors in the td5 and i wasnt to program the ecu for them.

Anyone else running a 1999ish flavour of TD5 ?

Trying to get a local landy garage to come out to program injector codes ( took ECU to him but id the security ECU isnt there programming it could screw things up.), but his garage is ~20 miles away.

Thinking about buying a nanocom, at least with that you buy the codes and they're yours. LynxEvo, after 3 years you have to pay a subscription to get it to work!

As long as i works with a '04 Td5 EMS it should work with the '99 too so it's not a firmware issue and i have a strong feeling that nanocom or any other would give you the same message cos it's a communication or ECU issue on the vehicle. Try to access the ABS on the '99 and if it's the same message the problem is with the data link on the vehicle but if it works with the ABS but not with the EMS it's a communication issue with that particular ECU not a problem with the tool

yeah was thinking along those lines. Thing is months ago when current saga started, local garage said they'd programmed the injector codes into it. ( different injectors) so something must have worked.
did check continuity on odbc socket pin 7 and. ecu pin 18 and that was fine. Dont have ABS on the '99 ( or do you mean the AS10 security module?

You posted in the discovery section so i didnt realise it's about defender, the gist is to try to communicate with other module than EMS to see if works or not
