it'll fit but it will not run, even more complicated than with the 300tdi as the td5 needs it's own electronic management too and it's not via CANwonder if a td5 engine might fit

well it was just a thought guys its gave you plenty to talk about so looks like ill have 1 to break for bits and might sell the other
that would need an engine
ill see what i end up doing
cheeers for all the inputs lads
mike
i will wait till i get them here and decide what to do i think i could sell 1 complete as isindeed it has , lol
as ur breaking them , will u be putting parts up on ebay or another forum plse
they don’t happen to have the centre screen and associated wiring do u plse , inc the MOST cable , got a project idea with one of those
thks
Im sure it can be done after you have overcome all the can/comms related issues you will still have an underpowered bag of wnak with half the systems not working properly!
I will give you a quick idea of what can-bus can do in a modern vehicle and many makes and even models use totally different protocols.
So you have an engine with an electrically controlled viscous cooling fan, and not only can it switch on when the engine gets a tad warm the gearbox can also request it to switch on as can the air con, the ecus will all talk to other via can but its not as simple as that as for example the engine and gearbox may talk to each other on their own can system but the a/c might have to ask the body controller to ask the engine ecu to switch the fan on via one or possible two different can networks.
In the case of the vehicle course I was on the fan is actually controlled by a PWM signal, the level of tech is simply amazing.
Then something I learnt yesterday was they also power/recieve signals/info in different voltages which I knew but also in ACv as well as DCv, TBH a lot of it was going over my head and going by the other 13 blanks looks I wasnt the only one!
One guy on the D3 forum was thinking of putting the 3.6 v8 onto a 2.7 D3 but another elecy guy reckoned whilst lots of the car is the same, the whole thing talks in a different can language so will not be possible.
Im reckon give it a few more years and some clever sod will make can-bus convertors etc
Ps if after reading the above you think I know what I am talking about you are sadly deluded!
i like your input
i think you are right though in a couple of years someone will have the knowlege /convertors
i will wait till i get them here and decide what to do i think i could sell 1 complete as is
and the other whatever parts i take from that to serve the first then put up for breaking
blimey and ur not wrong there with the amount of complex technology being fitted
have been doing a lot of reading where some have retrofitted the screen, but had to take the dashboard apart ,
i was trying to generally find out what it would take to only get the 4x4 screen working , what cable controls that bit, trying to find pictures of what the leads look like behind one that’s already fitted compared to my base model etc
wouldn’t be interested with everything else , just the 4x4 screen
i think the d3 can bus is 9 bit and the D4 is 11 bit
seems fitting an engine is the easy bit , lol
think ur right , there’s always that first person to come along and works it all out
as a side note , understand in once sense ref different voltages etc , as on boilers with thermistors and modulating gas valves
TBH the nav is wnak the 4x4 screen is er I forget as its so long since I last looked at it.
It is handy for telling you the name of the road you are one and thats about it, all the hidden menu is er pointless and once I had played with it when I first go the car I dont think I have touched it since.
So in a nutshell stick with tomtom, its fast, it works and you dont need a science degree to use it and the app is only 50 quid for your phone with foc updates for life.
Not forgetting in not to many years time we wont be driving our cars and certainly not modding them.
thks, i don’t think i’ll bother, lol
have got a tom tom, however they’ve turned the updates off, think it’s only 4 x years old
when i bought it, was told and saw in the box lifetime updates m then they turn it off, bloody rip off,
it must admit rally do like the tom tom satnavs
have u seen the garmin ones, some show obd2 data on the screen , by using something like an elm 327 bluetooth dongle , more than likely a feature in trying to get extra sales , lol
Got to be gearbox issue of some sort?
Could be throttle pedal issue if it will idle without loadupdate on 58 plate disco 3s picked one up this morning brought it back and was trying to get the lights on the roof to work so as i could see how good or bad they are
they are from an airfield so good bit kit has crow caller birds scarer as well
any way i turned the key and it turned over slowly
so got a fresh battery on it and tried it again burst into life engine is as sweet as so put it in drive and would stall no revs
tried a few times just the same brakes are free and both boxes in the cars are good am told
can rev up out of gear no probs anyone any idea ????
Could be throttle pedal issue if it will idle without load
ok guys put some time on to it today
starts ides no probs
when you put you foot down it builds up the revs
when warm it revs better but when you put in drive will drive off but wont go over 1200 revs ??
so cant get speed up anyone ideas ??
