First of all hello, I have just bought my first landrover after years of owning VWs from campers beetles up to GTIs. So i neaded a change and bought a 1998 2.0 xedi and no nothing about it apart form in feels nice to drive and looks good and after reading the posts on this forum going to cost me a small fortune. It has 69000 miles on the clock full service history and seems ok please someone tell me i have not bought into a nightmare. I am aware of the petrol engine head gasket problem but i am hoping there is not to many problems with the 2.0 diesal i'm not sure which type of engine i have but it says direct injection on the plastic cover. I really do like the car and hope all is well so hope to be around here for a long time.

hi shropshire lad. . . the diesels are ok mate ,two types the old l series type and in 2000 came the td4 this was a bmw sourced engine, both are good engines ,just normal maintenance to keep them tip top ,think yours is the l series but double check get yourself a haynes manual it covers all the engines except the v6 ,find out if the timing belt has been changed, that is an impotant one ,on the td4 its a chain so they last a lot longer than a belt, also change the fuel filter ,and dont go sticking fuel injector cleaner in like a lot of people do ,it will rake all the **** in ya tank, well that bout it really.

Thanks for the replies feel better about buying the freelander now the cam belt was changed at 40000 and i coming up to 70000 now so maybe i should think about getting it sorted.
