Hi all,

Just this morning parted with my 99 plate Merc CLK. A few things were going to need sorted soon, so thought i'd quit while I was ahead! I've a dodgy knee so need automatics. I'm in no rush for a car, but just came across the following, and it seems like a good deal. Having no experience of Land Rovers, i'd appreciate any feedback you guys can offer...

03 plate Freelander Serengeti Td4, 1951CC Diesel, 3DR, Auto. Now, it's done 109,000 miles. It's in immaculate condition to my untrained eye and has a full service history although I haven't been able to see this yet so can't confirm what work if any has been done over the years. Price - £1,500

I'd really appreciate any advice you might have to offer. Thanks!! :)

do a search for the following words, ideally in the same sentence ....

"gaylander"
"doors"
"fall"
"off"
"rain"
"wet"

then start looking for a different car:D

No love for the freelander then?

Not even a chance of getting say 10k good miles out of it?

burn the abortion:welcome2: then buy a disco or defender.
howardo gaylander warrior will disagree

A TD4 Freelander, is probably the most reliable of the bunch, however i would still avoid one. Although a 03 is a late one they still had problems with the VCU and other tempromental bits!

I would personally go for a TD5 Auto Discovery 2, then again this is just me :)

I would take them both for a test drive and compare them. They both have there problems, but a good one will last. I would also either get someone who knows Landys to check it over for you or you could get one of those RAC checks done :)

If you wanted advise on a freelander then you have posted in the wrong place, should have posted in the freelander section or on another forum. The inbreds on here hate them for no good reason. The td4 is an excellent vehicle, but £1500 for an 03 td4 auto seems too good to be true. You have to be careful buying a second-hand freelander as most have been neglected by previous owners, and they all look immaculate coz they don't rust.

It just appears, as you point out, very cheap...maybe its a bargain...but he really needs to have someone have a damn good look at it...the chap that posted the post i copied is looking at 1200 in repairs...mind you he has used a dealer
