Brakes.....

I've got a set of swb and lwb axles and I'm about to start the rebuild of my swb 2a. So is there a notable difference between the braking capability of the two? As in am I better putting the slightly larger lwb brakes on the swb axles or are they both comparatively crap

I'm only asking as I'm about to start painting stuff

I've got a lwb series 3 with the bigger drums and they are surprisingly good.

LWB 11" drums should in theory be better than SWB 10" by 10% I would think. Correctly set up and serviced I have never had a problem with SWB brakes. LWB Twin Leading Shoe systems can be a PITA to bleed. I ended up swapping the bleed nipple to the top and I bled them in an instant.

The LWB 11 TLS is a better brake, but it is a lot harder to bleed. You haven't mentioned your brake set up, servo. duel circuit?

It's spread around the shed and I can't remember cos it's been in bits for a few years

Series servo pedal assembly are rare check what pedal box you have.
TLS are good on road but not so good in reverse if your trialling or do a lot of off road.

I'll second that, we wiegh in at 2 1/4 tons due to the camper conversion, TLS on a hill are a challenge.
