Last week I had the brake pedal sticking and then smacking back a few seconds after removing my foot. It then threw an ABS/TC fault.

So, bled my brakes for 6 hours at the weekend. To be fair some tiny bubbles did come out the power circuit and strangely off the N/S caliper, odd as it was the O/S that showed sign of rust. All now seems good again.

What is more worrying was that I changed all the fluid in the summer (new sh!part calipers on the front, new rotors and pads) and the summer before that, yet I had some black flakes come out of the modulator. My reservoir is discoloured inside with black looking stuff, almost like fungal growth. Looked like some of that might have dropped off and been pushed through. Wonder if that could interfere with the valves inside? Also, the fluid level was still exactly on the max line. Parked in exactly the same place. I checked ll the lines thoroughly over the weekend and no sign of any leaks ... so how the hell did bubbles get in?!

Brake fluid is hygroscopic ie absorbs water/moisture, you may have had a tiny amount in the lines which may have boiled off under heavy braking.

The last time I encountered black deposits in brake fluid was when I was assisting a friend to bleed his brakes on a Honda Pan European motorcycle, (with ABS and Honda's linked front rear braking system).

We were unable to fully bleed the brakes my friend ended up taking the bike to his local dealer.

They found a perished rubber seal in the secondary master cylinder, (the black deposits were the remains of the seal presumably).

Will be checking over my brakes once I have sorted the sunroof, (and got the wheel nuts off)!
