Brakes! Please help!

Hi guys,

Getting messed about at a garage and could really do with some help...

My brakes were really hard so I ws advised to ger a new servo
..there not hard now, there too soft. The firs time I push them I get a good brake, second not so good, third hardly anything....? The garage said to get a new vacuum pump which ill fit tomoz (any advice on this?) but got a bad feeling that wont help...

Any thoughts would be great.

without vac and servo assistance pedal will be hard and difficult to press does your pedal get harder or softer softer would be air
 
with the engine off pump the pedal if it goes hard then the brakes are ok if the pedal creeps then the garage have probably not bled the brakes properly
 
It starts of 'ok' but it geta softer and softer. Almost to the point there is no brake at all. 30 second later its ok then the same thing happens??? I could understand its bleeding if it was consistently soft but its not...

not vac pump then master cylinder most likely if pedals pumped does fluid splash up in reservoir
 
Changed servo on garages advice. Went from very hard to soft after fitting. Havent fitted the pump. Is there any point?
 
sorry I had in my head it was the pump for some reason! It doesn't matter same difference if the pedal went hard before the servo was fitted then they probably needed to take the master cylinder off so they probably havnt bled it properly
 
not yet ,you check vac and servo by pressing pedal hard and holding ,start engine whilst still pressing pedal if vac and servo work ,pedal will sink a little, a very soft pedal is air or too much travel on shoes /pads which shouldnt occur with calipers like it does with drum brakes
 
Have had all the pads changed and system bled, some of the callipers pistons were stuck but have all been freed now - the pedal seems to have a consistant pressure and I get a good brake on the first and second attempt - third not so good! Hows that sound?
