Hi everyone,

Well I am getting a little tired of all the money going on the Discovery but I need to get a few jobs finished before she gets back on the road. One of these jobs is the brakes.

Before the new suspension goes on I need to put in new pads and replace the shoddy brake pipes from the previous hodge artist.

My question is simple. Is it easy enough to wip off the calipers and clean/paint them and refurb with seals if necessary to save £35 quid a side or just save up and buy new all round?

Cheers

If it were me I would just clean them up and paint them with some hamerite.

A wise man once told me that with "safety" related items such as brakes, you buy the best you can afford at the time. He also re-iterated "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". :D

I wouldn't strip the calipers if they are working properly, it's just asking for trouble. replace discs & pads, pump out old fluid and replace, take off original rubber flexi hoses and replace with braided ones. That should get your brakes up to as good as they can be. Which compared to normal cars is average to crap. Love it !!!!

Thanks for all your advice.

I reckon the general consensus is right, I will replace pads and hoses, which are already ordered and clean and paint them to help keep away the crud and crap.

Thank you everyone

My 2p:

I fitted brand new all round... by the time you factor in the time it will take you to strip, clean and rebuild with all new parts - its not all that much more for four brand new calipers!
