The breakes in my 89 2.5 td 90 are being funny. when applied gently at any speed they are fine and effective, when you use them quickly and sharply they work on the instant and then all pressure is lost you are not slowing down and it feels like you are just pushing a pedal with nothing behind it, then when you reach the bottom quarter of the pedal they come back again (just) there is a hissing sound, as if the air is just going when you brake sharply, but i have done the haynes checks on the servo and pump and apparently all is fine.
is this a normal LR quirk or something wrong??
cheers - W

Most likely, check it looks the same as what you have. Then try getting the air outta the bastid... :D

My dad had his old series on the bucket of a JCB overnight to get the end of it high enough for the bubbles to come out, but there are easier ways than this. SHouldn't be too hard with a bit of care, but make sure you put new fluid throughout the whole system!

Check for hydrualic leaks also and pipes expanding (rubber brake lines) under pressure, get someone to stand on the pedal hard and see if they give.
