Brake pipe corrosion warning

Not sure to what years or models this applies to, but if you’ve still got steel brake lines have a check for corrosion behind the front suspension turrets. My brake lines were nice and shiny where they could be seen, but whilst changing the front dampers I had the turrets off and noticed badly corroded pipe work behind them. So bad in fact, that a little scratch with my fingernail caused them to leak, both sides!
Copper lines now fitted.

My 1986 had metal clips securing the pipes to the turrets and rot was terrible under those clips. That was 16yrs ago during the restoration, copper since.
I had the turrets off last year, I think, to replace the dampers and found lots of greeny muck under those clips so I junked them.

Same clips on my ‘87, I took them off too. Proper rust traps.

Just had engine out of my 93, and noticed both pipes corroded where they pass through inner wing and the first two inches on top of the chassis rail, not bad enough to need replacing yet, so wire brush and grease, to be fair 27yrs old so cannot bitch to much!

I replaced with plastic P clips. Like they use on fire alarm cables.
Oh & new copper pipe

Steel brake pipes are the devil's invention - even worse, they rot from the inside out. Copper pipe is good. Even better, cupronickel/kunifer brake lines. Automec supply high quality pre-made kits but are a little pricey https://automec.co.uk/a/find/?nullsMake=Land+Rover&step=1
