brake pedal comes back on applciation

HI guys

I have a range rover p38 that has been a great car but now when I need it most It is beginning to fail on me

I have recently given the car to a garage who passed the car to someone they know etc that understand range rovers etc and I am not happy with the work that was doen.

I am therefore going to take another look,myslef as i do not want to shell more money out on it.

Basically the problem is when I go to press the brake pedal it feels like the pedal itself comes back at me before being overcome. There is plenty of fluid in the reservior, and the accumulator seems to be fine and operating normally. The pump was changed and is operational also.

i wonder if the valve block beneath the manifold has air in it and needs bled, does anyone else have any other ideas on this before I take a look?

Look at RAVE and bleed the brakes for starters. The brake bleeding proceedure is not the same as other cars.

Could be an ABS fault - does it 'pulse' at all?

HI guys

I have followed the RAVe bleeding procedure and I still have an issue with the pedal feeling like it is coming back up towards you when the brake is first pressed.

Any more ideas?

It has to be something obvisous, I just cannot see what it is.

Do you mean that when you first press it it seems slightly stuck?

not stick, it seems to physically come back at me, and then release and breaks operate

I have bled as per RAVE instructions but still not right.

I've driven a few which stick on and off but not pushed back.

Have you checked your foot?

could it b a new symptom of brake modulator/booster failure?

Does it only happen after first use after overnight rest etc? Or on every use? If former sounds like air/bleed issue to me. The correct RAVE method is essential, worth doing it again for the sake of a fiver`s worth of fluid and a short hour of time?

thanks for all the advice you gave on this,

I rebled the brakes again and this time it seemed to work fine

However, once I was finishing the bleeding a another brake pipe slit, dont know if it is teh flexi or the long pipe form the manifold back but I am guessing this is time to change all the brake pipes!

Clouds and silver linings.

It didn't give way in the outside lane of a motorway
When you replace the pipes you'll be an expert at bleeding the system

Finally got time to have another look at the brakes

This time I gave up, and booked the car into the garage to fix next week.

I cannot believe I have admitted defeat.
