I think the rear discs on my 90 are pretty shagged, lots of judder when brakeing and they dont look in the best condition.

I was thinking about replacing the discs with some cross drilled ventalted ones however I assume they are wider than solid discs. Will the standard calipers still fit?

Also planning on changing the pads while im there.
 
Different calipers, (to take the wider disc)

Do they do rear vented?? usual is front vented, rear solid.

rimmer only seem have solid rears too.
In which case, you can still fitted drilled and/or grooved solid discs with the original caliper
 
Why on earth do you need cross drilled discs on a Landy? Planning on ragging it round Silverstone :D Cross drilled discs are also prone to cracking and offroading you are more likely to get stones or other crap lodged in the holes and ruining your pads :(

Just fit good quality plain discs :)

This why i always ask before buying!

The hope is that it would stop a little better!

Solids are cheaper anyhow.

Why is it as soon as its cold i decide to do all the work!
 
If you want to stop better buy decent pads and Brembo plain discs. You could also look at upgrades like fitting bigger discs and calipers, maybe RR ones can be made to fit?.

The way you go through pads though when offroading I decided its not worth it, I like paying £12 for my pads :D

Under normal use, vented discs make absolutely no difference to braking performance. The only advantage they have over solids discs, is that they cool down quicker, but unless you are racing, or driving like a total f**kwit, you should not be getting anywhere near to overheating your standard brakes.
 
I have always found Greens on on lighter cars but no way I would use them on a 2 ton brick :D Yellows used to work well on my 200sx that i used on trackdays but I would say were overkill for a Landy.

Like Trax says i would just use Pagids from a motor factors :)
 
A set of rear pads lasts less than a month for me when the season is here for off road, so its the cheapest ones available and changed often the fronts last about 6 weeks, it is all down to the fact that the main ground type here is sand so it simply grinds away the pads.If you are doing mainly road work then stick on a decent well known brand with some new discs and accept that is how it stops, you really dont need cross drilled and grooved on a Landy.
 
over all the years of working on vehicles, i never seen the point of unessasary extras like crossdrilled or grooved on normal vehicles.
the R & D departments of each model test braking to destruction prior to going into production,
so why challenge the millions spent on research.
If my old landie came with london red bricks as standard, then thats what I`d fit on servicing.

Its Ironic that cycles that have disc breaks, come with drilled discs....
my landy never, so its not...
 
Grooved discs are good on a car you use on track as they deglaze the pads, the reason you dont get them on the average road car is they wear the pads out quicker and you get increased NVH which 95% of the buyers wont like :)
 
I got cross drilled terrafirma disks for the front of my Defender as the supplier had some in stock that were ordered wrong, so got them at cost. Same price as new standard cheapies delivered.

They don't go rusty and the braking is really good and consistent. They seem to give good feel under braking too. I nearly changed the backs too but needed to pay full price. So I'm leaving it till next pad change.

I've never got on with EBC pads myself, had them fitted to my old classic mini. Felt very wooden. But just fitted some EBC reds to my a EVO so hope they are not as bad as the mini. Again got them cheap so thought I might try them.
