Dredging up this old thread, I just fitted Britpart calipers to my spare P38. All looked good, so bled them with help from mate.

Didn't realise until wheels re-fitted, but the front calipers are 5mm bigger in the centre, and foul on the wheel rims.

Have sent email with pictures off to Island-4x4 to see what they are gonna do.

Nope 18" on this car. Don't know if they LR P38, or aftermarket ? Fitted by previous owner or before that maybe? I even moved the caliper aside, and re-fitted the original to double check. Caliper definitely measures 5mm bigger !!

Update . . .searching google images & it looks like they are Mondial 18" either from this P38, or a disco.

Maybe I should try a 16" wheel from the other car !!

Got a reply from Island already saying they will collect callipers. Surprised to get a response on Sunday or maybe they have a batch problem & know about it.

At least it’s the project car & not daily driver, but pain having to bleed again. Almost MOT ready as well.

Same calliper used on Disco & P38. I also checked carriers to see if they are L & R but identical both sides.

The measures in pictures show the real issue. Thicker castings but no extra offset in the mountings.

New pictures of Lucas & Britpart calipers. Studding was as straight as I could get it. Waiting for Island to respond !!

FYI, they have checked other Britpart & Eurospares calipers in their warehouse, and apparently all of them are 70mm thick at the centre. Now waiting for them to check the position of the lugs.

What's the difference if these two edges are flush? o_O:p

Hee hee, :p
It doesn't make sense why there would be a difference?? Could they be different on the later models with 18" wheels? o_O

No, I've seen similar issues with 16" rims although I cannot remember now if they were 7J rims rather than 8J - some early P38s had 7J rims, presumably using up stock from the Classic.

Early Dhse models where fitted with 255/65/16's before the 18" arrived and the other models had 235's.

Update. Today I cleaned up the old Lucas calipers. Lubricated them with Rubber Grease & fitted new seals. Installed back on the car & have >>7mm clearance to the wheels. Pulled new fluid through using vacuum pump & no leaks so far. They need bleeding properly when I have an assistant available.

FYI, before this I tried my 16" spare from the other car with the ****part caliper installed. There's << 2mm clearance between the wheel & caliper, so would be concerned using these even with 16" wheels. How much do calipers expand when hot from heavy use ?
