tbh i can't see any filter on it, if one was added it would be to the inlet port imo
On a CAV pump, it is in the union where the lp line goes into the pump, so as you say, it doesn't seem to have one.
ive checked air filter but not taken off all the air pipework yet, maybe i should.

All covered in gunky ****e though.. urghh...

I would check air intake hoses too, they are known to give trouble. Tappets can effect performance, if they have all opened up, valves don't open as much as they should. Might be worth cleaning the stuff out too, I doubt it is the source of your problem, but every little helps.

ill have a look at the hoses, see if they have collapsed and blocking the airway a bit perhaps?

Have checked and adjusted valved. a few were a little tight but nothing untoward. It did run a smidgen better... more better starting than anything afterwards.

Clean the stuff out? Ive replaced the intercooler with a big un. after the problem started to no avail.
 
Internal collapse is a common issue. Clutching at straws a bit, but you do seem to have covered most of the usual faults. Cant really see why they would collapse on two vehicles at the same time!
 
Our 300tdi disco struggled. Previous owner ran on bio (as do i). Had a poke about in the fuel tank and there was a layer of slime on the bottom restricting the pickup. Got rid of it and it went a load better.

Remember the sedimenter too.
 
I may be wrong but recall the return line banjo fitting on the top front of the inj pump has something inside it a non return valve possibly?

Bit of digging search for (bosch ve return valve out)
Apparently the tiny restrictor hole does have a very fine mesh.
Cant be dear and has got to be worth a try?

first one (the csw) went about 10,000 miles ago, hasnt got any worse or better since.

the 3dr's went about a month ago - again no change in performance either way despite continuing usage.
Have you tried using oil that hasn't been used to fry Mars bars and pizzas?

The current "eco fuel" has only been used to dip salad in, its virgin olive oil :p

I dont use oil thats been used by scottish healthy eating providers like chip shops.

hmmm... Ill see if i can find out. If it was partially blocked though, one might expect that continual usage would mean it the remaining passageway would block even faster?

Theres no sedi' on it, im going to backflush the hoses with an airline and petrol.

This is after trax's suggestion of running it off a jam jar of fuel to try and isolate where the problem lies.

regarding collapsed air intake hose - as im still getting a good 15psi on the boost gauge (tweaked turbo) would this rule this out? if it couldnt get enough air surely it wouldnt be able to operate the turbo properly?

Personally I would try draining all the bio, tank, filters, and lines, cleaning out thoroughly and filling up with clean diesel. Not saying it is the cause, although I don't like biofuel myself, But only way to isolate the fault will be to eliminate everything bit by bit. At the end, you will only be left with the fault. :)
 
boost gauge is only measuring pressure - not flow. If all is well this doesn't matter - but if a pipe is partially blocked, it does!

You also might find draining the tank interesting in itself. Only way to see some problems! ;)

My mate was adamant that putting two stroke oil in diesel was good thing. I told him repeatedly it wasn't! But the penny only dropped when we removed and drained his fuel tank, and physically saw the great pool of the stuff, completely undissolved in the bottom of the tank! :D:D
 
i dont think i want to try and remove the fuel tank....

I might end up looking like wolf and having to call in a real man to get a nut off! :O

Mine has a drain plug, and so does a 200Tdi! ;)
Dunno if it makes me a real man, according to Rach I am a metrosexual! :eek: But I don't bother undoing many nuts on an old landy, grinder or a sharp cold chisel and club hammer works for me every time! :D
