Good evening peeps!! First post and most prob the one of many!!! I recently bought a '93 200tdi basically for fun and the missus to get to work in the winter ( that was the excuse for her letting me have one ;) )
Today I pulled out the dash to change the dial/gauge bulbs as they were all shot apart from one! I replaced them all with LED replacements I got off eBay a few years ago, the lights are spot on but the problem now lies with both gauges!!!! Since refitting the dash both gauges climb all the way round to full/red when the ignition is turned on!! Removed the dash again and all connectors etc seem ok, cleaned out a couple of plugs etc as a bit dry but still no fix!!! Any ideas or anyone had this after dash removal? Cheers sam :)

oh dear, u cd be in trouble with some of the other inmates for not saying hello first

have u checked the earth connections are good? sounds like that cd be the problem, was with my temp gauge

My apologies for no hello!! Totally new to all this forum stuff! Will post in their now! Cheers or the reply, that was the route I was heading down until it started getting dark and gave up! So I take it the two earth points on the back of the gauges go to the same earth post etc?? Reason why they are both climbing to the top??

Worth trying a wire direct from the gauge to the sensor to eliminate a faulty wire. Also from the gauge to the engine to ensure that the needle goes straight into the red.

Cheers will try that now! But why do both go right to full/red?? Ar the joined by a common earth? What voltages should I see on the terminals? I have 12v on a post on each and 4v on the fuel gauge other terminal and 0.5v on the othe post on the temp gauge?????

Nope only the dash bulbs?? Also my stereo won't let me select the radio or anything just powers up and runs the demo on it?? D you think all this is related? The fuel gauge going to red on the ignition and the temp gauge goes way up off the scale!!!!

Yea it all worked before I removed the dash to replace the bulbs?? Only other thing I chanced was the battery for an optima! Must have disturbed something but not a clue what?? The stereo was already pre-wired when I bought it, unsure where the live is fed from but the negative is from the clock? And the ignition feed?

This is what I'm thinking??? Surely led bulbs shouldn't effect the gauges when the lights are not powered up???? is that the usual earth point @ the gearbox mount that tends to make the fender do odd things??
