Bonnet wont open until 'bumped'

Opening the bonnet on the 110 is a 2 person job - one person to pull the release, and the other person to bump (push down on) the bonnet, before it will pop up into the usual position (where you can then get your fingers under to move the catch to the side)

Now this will, i suspect, be due to the general twisted nature of every panel on this vehical, but it gets irritating as, every time i want to do anything, i need to summon my (un)happy helper.

Anyone encountered this before, and can advise me which bit to hammer (or otherwise?)
 
Bonnet striker plate or pin, worn or damaged.
Always a bit of a fiddly job, but easily obtained replacement parts. Sometimes turning the pin 90deg works.
Worth checking bonnet release cable not stretched or seized.
 
Not tried anything yet. Only had truck a short time and had just assumed it was a mis shapen bonnet.

I have a 300tdi 90 with the spare wheel on the bonnet. The bonnet doesn't even try to pop up when I pull the release cable. I keep a wooden clothes peg attached to the pull handle. when I need to open the bonnet I just pull the release cable out and put the peg on the cable behind the handle. I can then go around to the front of Landy and pull the bonnet up enough to reach the catch and lift the bonnet.

Slightly OT but I believe that one of the reasons for moving the spare wheel from the bonnet to the side mount on the Wolf was that the bonnet would flex under the weight of the wheel and could damage the injector pipes on the engine (also a 300). Might be worth keeping an eye open for that.

I hadn't heard that Kwakerman. Thanks for the heads up. I'll check it out.
 
Have had a 255/85/16 bonnet mounted for many years, including over 25,000 miles on non sealed surface road without issue.
Admittedly have chequer plate on the bonnet.

The slot in the bonnet pin can be used to adjust the length against the spring ... maybe a tweak is in order ...
and make sure the slider is moving freely when the cable is used ...
