I am trying to fit the bonnet on my 1989 110.

The hooks that the hinges fit into are not evenly disposed around the center line of the vehicle. The bulkhead is original and as the hooks are welded to it, they could not have moved. The offset is around 8mm towards the nearside.

I wonder if anyone could measure theirs to see if this is intended.

Thx.

Its an old truck who knows, Bulkhead may not be square on chassis, Are door gaps right? Chassis could have a slight distortion. By old Landy Standards that's not much. Does it latch?

Have you got both the plastic bonnet hinge bearings the same way round? lf one is fitted the wrong way round it may give the alignment issues you have experienced.

Try slackening the hinge bolts on the bonnet and lining it up the re-tighten the bolts.
There is adjustment at this point and also in the catch receiver. Get it to shut correctly and the. Don’t worry it is not quite central. As above in old Land Rover terms 8mm is nothing. And is Probabaly working Solihull tolerances for when they were new leaving the factory!

Sorted now.....after a bit of jiggling. I had to slot the bonnet hinge hole to get the bonnet further back towards the bulkhead by around 4mm.
Interestingly the bonnet is not fitted on the centerline of the vehicle due to the hinge bracket offset on the bulkhead. I will measure other Land Rovers to see if this is common or if my LR is a 'Friday afternoon' special.
I am guessing that the offset is a throwback to an earlier hinge design and the catch receiver is offset to compensate for it.
Thx for the replies.

I went to adjust the bonnet catch & do some sound proofing on my 1985 90 and discovered that a previous owner had fitted a TD5 bonnet.

(It had honestly never occurred to me to check that the bonnet, of all things was genuine!)

I’m still unsure if this is a problem, or if the slightly terrible fit is just the usual slack Land Rover tolerances :D
