Freelander 1 Bonnet/Hood cable broken ( both ends ) any other way of getting it unlocked?

First post from many hopefully.

I like to fix my own cars ( cheap and interesting ), but this one, oh man I'm going to learn.

So the lever is fine the cable was attached but wasn't working, so bent the plastic bumper a bit so I could find the safety latch, tried to unscrew the two bolts one of them has flattened so there's nothing to catch it.

Any other way of opening it? Or If someone has the same Freelander 2006 TD4 can video tape how it works ?

If the cable is still attached it has probably stretched.
I think you can remove the cover around the lever in the cab and use a pliers to pull the cable.
Once open, You can re-adjust the cable.

I had to do this once but I can't recall if it was for my TD4 or my wife's old Zafira.
