Body panel alignment

yeh thats what i'm thinking. Didn't even consider that as an option as i just copped the bolt locations.

Here is a photo looking from rear wheel arch forward. Before i go and muck about with this, do we think there is enough flexibility in the body that a slight misalignment here could result in around a 1 inch drop on the side wall from the roof line? It is in the right place to suggest so - directly below the B-post...

In the photo you can see the new rock sliders (with the coppaslip), replacement plate (shiny black) and the matt textured black behind/below that is the new battery box.

ive had several were adjustment was needed or leaving unbolted till body was assembled and any forcing of bolts by prying then didnt effect the body alignment when rebuilding, trucks

So you'd suggest slackening the body to outrigger bolts to see if that helped, then prying back in once the roof is on? Or are you saying it made little difference? Sorry, just not quite getting what you mean here.

yes slacken or remove those bolts, no bolt should be tight anyhow till you get it aligned

great thanks. I'm hoping thats the answer with these two bolts as its the only ones i've touched....and forgot i touched haha.

Fingers crossed!!

Did you miss my post the other day  :)
Nope, just the penny never dropped about this outrigger bracket! I now have all hopes pinned on this haha

I would have (and did last night) slacken off the floor plates, tunnels etc. Though I wasn't sure how they'd raise the height of the wall, but was worth a go anyway!

Ok, so slackened everything off, including the side wall to the tub as i noticed the bracket had slotted holes. Roof is now on fine, but slight pull away at the tub... gap is much less than the roof was, so is this acceptable? I was thinking a bit of tiger seal would sort it...

No, the tub to side panel looks shot. I'd be putting new seals in there.
I'd take your floor panels completely out. Gear box tunnel too. Have you slackened the bulkhead to chassis brackets off? Don't underestimate how slack everything needs to be.

sealed joint like side to tub need to be tight its the others that have adjustment like tub to chassis

this is getting frustrating!!
Floor plates, tunnel, rear tub to chassis outrigger (photo I posted Monday night), sill rail to tub.... all slack or out. The body still wasn't moving, hence I thought i'd slacken the side wall to tub.
I kept the bulkhead to chassis bolt tight as its the correct dimension from the B-post, so figured i'd need to keep some sort of fixed datum.

Should I be taking off the seat box too, or just its connection to the sill?

If you don't loosen the bulkhead to outrigger bolt the bulkhead won't adjust and you don't know if it's at the correct angle. It needs to move and adjust in synchrony with with the roof and tub.
If you've taken the floor plates and tunnel out and taken the bolts out of the seat box it may be ok. It will be putting a cantilever weight on the end of the tub though. Probably make adjusting everything difficult. I put mine on after I got the body sorted.

Thought i'd give a wee update.

My mate came round tonight. He's more used to rebuilding vintage sports cars, but somehow managed to adapt haha.

We checked loads of dimensions and confirmed that the bulkhead was aligned properly, both sides of the car all matched up, roof height etc etc etc. Although the gap at the tub looked terrible, it was actually only 2mm difference from the other side. As the seal broke, the black visible seal gave the illusion it was miles out. Nipped up a couple bolts and all came true!

So finally, everything is lined up!

Thanks to you all for your help. Panoramic glass can go on this weekend now!
