I've had a lot to do with this engine and have a good one sitting around so was wondering if its fitted in the Range Rover how easy would it be to fit in a Disco 300tdi, any done the conversion or know of such a conversion?

TIA

I would imagine the wiring is the hardest bit if its the m51 you mean Is it not all fly by wire ****e? plus you would need a matching ecu as the injector pump is coded to it sure it could be done though with a bit of thought

Did they ever make a good one ?

I don’t think that the pump on the M51 is coded in any way to the ecu, it’s a VP37 which is fly by wire but a fairly simple analogue version.

I have seen this engine fitted to a recovery truck, I can’t remember what it was but nothing which ever had any connection with that engine so it must be a fairly straightforward conversion.

I have read that the simplest form of ecu to control this pump is attached to the throttle pedal which would make a very neat package.

Im speaking from experience with my 525tds the pump is coded to the ecu as mine needed a new one and it had to be the same ref number as what was there or i would have needed to change the ecu too Im sure its a vp44 on the bmws i might be wrong

Ok i am wrong vp44 is later but mine still had to be coded

There are lots of different VP37 pumps with different parameters which I suspect this number refers to not any code. If the pump was coded then either the new pump or the ecu would have to be recoded to match, there would only be one of each code so you couldn't find one the same and just fit it. There may be differences in the wiring to make it awkward for thiefs so they can't just bring along a spare ecu to pinch your car which could be part of this number.

Decently a VP37 as I had a BM to. I know VP30 and VP44 are coded though as I have had them to.

Regardless it would be easier just to buy a whole car and take everything needed from it.
