I recently had to have my Freelander put into the Auto Electricians as my alternator blew. The cause of this was an oil leak, which they suspected had come from the Power Steering.
The electricans found no leakage at all and replaced my alternator, last Friday. I popped the bonnet this morning to find a slight coating of oil on the alternator at the electrical connection end.
After a quick inspection, I think I have found the source of the problem. The hose which is connected to the box on top of the engine, is really saturated with an oil like substance. This hose has been touching the screw mount, which has slightly split the hose.
I'm going to replace this hose, but I'm wondering what else i should be doing at this point?
The car has done over 100k and I'm not sure when the last service was carried out.
Should I change the oil filters etc, along with this hose? If so, can someone point me in the direction of a how to guide? I tried to download the rave cd, but had no luck.
Also, when I give the engine some rev's now, there is a slight mis-fire about 3000 revs. At start up I have a small cloud of blue smoke.
Are all these faults related? Any help or advice would be appreciated.
