I'm in a vastly better position than those people who have lost out due to the floods but.....

I took ALL my leave in one go giving me 6 weeks off including the public holidays and some other days owed and it's been raining the ENTIRE time. I had a few jobs to do:

A frame ball joint
All suspension bushes (except dampers)
Oil and filter
Air and fuel filters,
RTC steering damper
Adjust stop location of rear wiper
Adjust steering stop
A little chassis paint
Fit new stereo, fuse box cover and some electricals......

I don't have access to a garage at the moment so it's all outside and so far I've got the A frame done (ball joint and bearings), rear wiper fixed, the chassis paint and some of the electricals.

Today it's wet under foot but all I've managed to do is get the steering guard off but it started raining again.

Arghh

I can't undo the two nuts at the end of the old damper so I'm going to have to chop the old one off but will have to wait till it stops........

No I thought I would have a nice long break and during that break I would do these few jobs which should have taken 3-4 days at most. The ground is wet but the sky is blue and the forecast is for no rain till 6pm today so hopefully I can get the remaining bushes done today and if there are not too many issues the oil & filters.
 
Hate to say it, but you did it to yourself taking all your time off in winter :p
If it makes you feel any better, you're not alone. It has started raining down here too, and when the weather changed I had to give up on swapping my front axle and just do swivels and halfshafts. Just too much time and effort in the rain for what could otherwise be quite a fun and satisfying job, but not worth the extra effort in the wet.
The back has been turned into a really cramped workshop where I could strip the spare axle in the dry (as dry as it gets in a disco anyway) but as soon as my seals and bearings turn up I'll be dodging the weather trying to get it all together without a bunch of rainwater inside.

It wasn't taken off just to do these jobs. I reasonably assumed I'd have a few fine days and realistically the "outside" jobs are 2-3 days of them..... A frame, damper and service should be doable in a day likewise rest of bushes plus another day for issues..... Anyway just about to go out and do the bushes...... oil and filters change should take an hour tomorrow if I don't get it done today. Rest of the stuff is inside so shouldn't be an issue.

Good luck. As soon as I get out to do anything it'll wait till I've got all the tools out and then suddenly start pouring out of nowhere, only to stop again as soon as I've packed up and put the kettle on.
Oil and filters can be done in rain if you have to, so you needn't lose a day if you can't crawl around on the floor. Mind you, if the vehicle is jacked up it might not drain well.

Some of those things are pretty good, although the cheapies might need a bit of reinforcement in windy places.
Surprising what you can rig up with a big tarp and some bits of wood and rope too.

Amazed that you would assume there would be dry days. It can easily rain for three or four months solid in the winter here! :D

Best of luck with that, next rain band is visible out West from here. On its way! :(
 
Well I managed to change the oil & filter, air filter, fuel filter, panhard rod bushes, refit the steering guard and do the rear nearside lower suspension arm bushes.......

Tomorrows jobs are the rear offside suspension arm bushes and both the radius arms. All the other jobs are electrical and inside the car so nice and simple.........

I sent several hours last night in hospital getting home at 6am having got a piece of metal in my eye from using the grinder. It managed to get past my safety glasses so now I have that to contend with as well as the rain. I can't even leave it because one of the lower rear axle arms is poly bushed and the other isn't! Will probably have to leave the radius arms for now......

Ouch, I've had that before. The bits bounce about and end up going through the vents. Hope it heals soon.
