found the ins companies would work for our custom but today they simply dont care and not bothered if u say forget it
meant to ask does anybody know how many years ncb u need before u can protect them please
got 4 x years ncb and are there pros and cons in doing this

From this looks like a cost/benefit trade off where I suspect you'll be hard pressed to decide for the best

Been with Aviva a few years now. They did a good deal when I changed from my RRC to the Disco. RRC was on a classic policy with no NCB. This was being used on my MR2. They gave me max NCB as long as I didn't claim in the first year. Now got both on multicar policy for £400 pa with protected NCB. They want an extra £360 to put my daughter on (25 yo, learner with no experience!) and that's for the Disco and the MR2!

Not exactly Thor - she's a LEARNER driver, which means in the UK that she'll have to have L plates on the vehicle & an experienced driver with her at all times.
Once she's passed her test and allowed out on her own, watch that insurance skyrocket....

Not just car insurance they do this on, my house insurance was due in February, had been with the aa, cost around 250 a year for buildings and contents. Renewal came through, 360 quid.
I immediately called them and they said that was the best they could do. So I had a search and found the same cover for 190 quid, called them back and asked to cancel. All of a sudden they could beat the other price, and throw in home emergency and breakdown cover for nowt. When I enquired why they couldn't do a better price in the first place, he couldn't answer.
I'm sure they do it as they know there are enough gullibles around to pay it, but you would think with the availability of comparison sites, they would try and give the best deal in the first place.

I've often wondered if you had mega cash in the bank (ie a lottery win) if you could self insure? You'd obviously make sure there's a certain amount of your cash ringfenced incase of any accidents. If you were a careful driver it'd be like not paying premiums. Just a thought. I'm in a medication induced haze at the moment after having some toes amputated on wednesday afternoon so go easy on me, i'm fragile lol.

Yes or at least you used to be able to. Think it was £1million. But it had to be held in trust so you couldn't spend it. & you had to register it with Government.

I know Nottingham City Transport (local authority bus company) was self-insured in the '90s. One of their buses hit a friend's car, he just went to the depot with the repair estimate where they matched the dents to the bolt pattern on the bus bumper (they use(d) Volvo buses which were very idiosyncratic), and they wrote him a cheque there and then.
