A couple of threads lately have mentioned the bling factor. I have a defender to pull a caravan and transport three dogs. I probably could have gotten a big estate car instead but I wanted a Defender, I'm an ex squaddie an learned to drive in one, I've had two Freelanders and they were ****. I bought a silver limited edition which had quite a bit of kit on I'll probably never need, but of all the ones I looked at it was in the best nick at the right price. I put the side steps on cause me and the mrs are short arses. I swapped all the hinge bolts cause they were rusting pretty bad, fitted the dog cage, put alloy gear knobs in cause the leather ones were falling apart and alloy will last forever. I'm changing the steering wheel cause I like leather ones. Other landy drivers are gonna see me drivin round town and think look at that prick but what to do? F**k em. I still get a wave though.

Well said!

I've just had a moan on another thread about the attitude towards 'bling'. So what if people like chequer plate and alloy bits and bobs - it's their ruddy vehicle and they can do what they want! Defenders are workhorses but they're fun workhorses too! If people want to use them and enjoy them for anything other than off road/work purposes, so what...let them. Surely that's one of the best things about this vehicle...it's something to all men (and women!) so live and let live and stop being so ruddy pompous about the holy sanctity of driving through deep mud and wading rivers! Yes the vehicle will do it...but it does a whole lot more to.

Count to ten, rant over. :)
