The only way to speed it up is a complete re-install when it runs fast for a few months. Still the fastest Windows computer in my collection is Win 95. It's all designed to slow down over time, so, as the adverts say, "slow computer? time to buy a new one"
Done all that, make a small difference. Defrag is done on a regular basis. That's because you are getting rid of all the crap then it builds up again and slows it down. As said try Ccleaner and defrag the disc. .Delete all but the latest restore point.

Had to quit Firefox as it's no longer supported on XP. Currently using Opera which is Chrome based and still supported.Does Firefox work? Or is that unsupported for XP now too?

They all do that one way or another. I don't do anything that would be of interest and all my details are incorrect.I stopped using Opera when they started logging everything I did.
