I got a knock on the door this morning at 0650 to find my brother in law on the doorstep n the 90 making one hell of a noise from under the bonnet! He said he heard it on way back from walking his mutt so hadn't been doing it that long, so me in my jammies popped tbe bonett n it was coming from near the washer bottle, it was the washer pump working merrily away on its own! There was water under the landy but not directly under the washer bottle, but i suppose water travels? Anyway my son popped his head out his window n said it started doing it yesterday n he just moved the pump n it stopped doing it, I did that n it didn't so just disconnected it, so why the hell is it doing this I thought it would be ignition fed? Also how do i sort it not overly good the lectrics n need it working for this weekend's jaunt to landyzone 11 :)

This is the part making all the noise i am assuming it is the washer pump? What's odd is that although i pulled the connector off when i press the washer stalk it still makes a noise like it's trying to pump water through, oh n the passenger footwell is swimming in water! !

You may have two washer pumps if you have a rear door wash/wipe. If you have, it could be the rear one you have pulled the connector off and the front is still working on the stalk?
 
I don't think that the front washer pump would flood the passenger footwell unless the tube was fractured.

The rear wash feed goes straight up the passenger side A post, again it should be continuous from pump to spigot unless fractured as it comes through the bulkhead.

So one of the 2 pumps is getting voltage, may be a shorted switch? I agree with your ignition switched argument.

Unplug both pumps at the pump end, fill water bottle with water. Plug one pump back in.
Then plug the other, what happens?

As a roadside fix when I had a similar issue so I plugged the front washer pump into the rear washer switch & used the rear wash push button to get water to the front screen, & did not bother with the rear wash at all.

Got me home :)
 
I did wonder if it might be to do with the rear wiper as I've not got rear wiper fitted i will leave it unplugged as i don't need it :) will fill washer bottle up again tomoz n see if my front ones squirt water they can be a bit hit n miss i have to keep sticking a pin in the holes! ! :)

Both my washers (front and back) are wired to the steering wheel stalk so both work at the same time :rolleyes: or don't which is more likely the case

I doubt it's standard or a good idea but it's a twenty for year old landrover with previous owners and the switches are pricey.

I've got a rear wiper switch on the dash too assumed it was standard??

So you were trying to confuse me lol :) now got another problem battery has gone flat��wouldn't start again after my lad dropped his mates off after driving back from hawes, said it just kept clicking, thought starter may have been stuck but I've been this morning n the battery is dead as a dodo! So god knows what's going on!
