BFG KO2 at or MAXXIS MT-764 mt

My head is mashed searching forums and on google trying to decide which tyres to buy .
BFG KO2 or MAXXIS MT-764 .
Both have that aggressive sidewall look im after .
some say BFG all day long others say MAXXIS

Are MAXXIS ok on wet roads ? or dangerous .
Are BFG rubbish off-road .

I cant get cooper stt which i would like , im running conti cross contact's great tyre but dont have the look a DEFENDER should have , my opinion !!!! . So if you had to pick which one of the above would you buy , and please give your opinion's if you have or have had either please i need to decide tonight , so no pressure . thanks all .
 
Easy. Do you want an All Terrain or do you want a Mud Terrain. Other than that they are not directly comparable.
 
I have the KO2 on my P38 and I have followed the Defenders with KO3 mud tires everywhere. I think they are a good compromise between offroad and street tires. I don't like the idea of using mud tires as street tires because I don't think they have as good traction or braking on wet pavement. I cut a hole in a sidewall on one offroad trip so they are not indestructable bit seem to be wearing OK. Would buy again.

Thats pretty much what i wanted to hear thanks ..... i know theres no direct comparison mt/at , but i wasnt convinced the maxxix muds were better than BFG at's on the road as some said . IF there were i may of gone maxxis .
MY actual aim was a good behaved tyre on road , acceptable off road , BUT mainly looks i wanted that aggressive sidewall , im on continental cross at a great tyre but dont look right on a defender in my opinion .

I do more on road than off , but its my shooting bus so need it capable off-road . doc has given me some real bad news so its all a bit mute , but i want it looking good before i go . My son will benefit more lol , dont your kids always .

You mean KM3, there is no KO3.

As for performance off road. It depends what you drive on. In proper mud the MT's are far far superior to the all terrains. And I'd argue that on-road the difference isn't actually that huge. The MT has sipes, so will be largely fine in the wet. The Ko2 is likely to be better on rocks, gravel and sand than most MT's. And there is an advantage on road, but in this instance the comparison is pretty much the most aggressive AT on the market vs a mild MT. So they are pretty close really in their abiities.
 
I'm not persuaded by the "aggressive sidewall" term that seems to be fashionable marketing speak. I can't see the point of angry tyres, I like grip, wet grip, M&S grip and lot and lots of mileage at a fair price. I opted for Yokohama Geolandar GO15s when they were on offer and they have been great, full M&S rate and claimed 40k miles life. There were other good tyres when I searched, but the BFGs were way over priced and did not have a snow rating. Aggressive towards the environment is not a look I want from my tyres and I think it could go out of fashion.
 
That's very interesting because I could not see the M&S triangle on the sidewall. This mattered to me because I was (at the time) considering a trip to a snow area and a friend had got pulled by the local Police and they specifically looked for the M&S symbol.

Don’t know if they all have it. But just checked on my brothers 90 and they have the 3 peaks on them.

Yes that's the 3 peaks mark, the BFG A/T KO2 I was looking at did not have them. Update perhaps? The NHS on the KMS is a bit of a show stopper if its on the UK spec tyres. Perhaps its a US thing?

No idea what that is, nonsense I suspect.

You can use any road legal tyre on a green lane. Although you really shouldn't need 'extreme' mud terrains. But a regular MT like the KM3 would be a very good choice.
 
NHS is a US marking - Not Highway Service and it means the tyre is for off road use only. But so far as I'm aware its not used in the UK so my bet is its only on US spec tyres and then only on those with a mud tread. The NHS marking is used on some agricultural tyres and ride on mower tyres in the UK where it makes sense.

Thank, learnt something new today. Not sure why @Gord Wedman was citing it with regards the KM3. I think they are OEM fit on some vehicles in the USA.

The link you provided to the UK seller of the K02 had the advisement on their website for the KM3. I just thought it was interesting that they seemed to be saying you couldn't use the KM3 on greenlanes but if this warning does not apply in the UK I guess they just copied the US text. Even then I don't understand why BFG has cited it.

I have a set of maxxis mt764 and for a mud terrain they are civilised on the road. They are not as good in mud as my Federal Couragias though. But still very good and are on the less aggressive end of the MT spectrum. Personally, if money is no object id get bfg tyres every time. Not because the Maxxis arent good, i just think bfg are very good (only experienced KO not KMs).
