Best Rustproofer?

Was dismantling Edith yesterday and horrified by extent of rust - two holes bigger than my fist appeared when my fist leant against said chassis.

Been researching rust proofing for my new chassis (unless I take the expensive plunge and go Richards Galvanised).

Anyone got experience of JENOSEL? RUST BULLET? POR 15? I want it to be rust proof / scratch resistant and easy to paint. GALVAFROID?

What's the best? I'm wanting to waxoil the interior while the chassis is freestanding and paint the exterior?

Also want to protect the new bulkhead - waxoil interior sections and paint on stonechip to outer footwells? Respray exterior with several layers of good paint?

I noticed that the bulkhead to windscreen seal is stupidly open cell foam which holds on to the water in what can only be described as an internal rain-gutter-rust-trap. Is there a closed cell foam, or thick rubber / polyprop replacement seal?

Advice appreciated. Don't want to rebuild her again 8 years down the line (live by the sea).

For "Galvo-in-a-can" type primer check out here Ferrous Metal Primers - UK and scroll to the bottom. Used for repairing damaged Galv, but can be used as a primer before putting ordinary rust inhibiting primer on. I know a couple of Landy owners that have used this followed by several coats of Black Hammerite smooth finish.

As for rustproofing, a search of this forum will lead you to the answer that Dinitrol is the best, albeit most expensive. DN AV8 over everything and then overcoat with AV100D on exposed bits like chassis rails for optimum protection, or just coat everything with the halfway house AV30.

Bulkhead/windscreen shield - any black non-porous rubber that you can find lying a round should do ;)

Soonds like **** maintenance by the previous owner..... Reprimand him, chastise him and get Mrs Muddy to spank him severely.

No you know why his face fell when you wanted to 'inspect it in the morning, when it's light' hehe.

You coming oot tae play on Seturday?

you could replace the rubber strip with glazing tape. It's designed to hold glass in place and comes in various widths it'll stick to the bulkhead and the bottom of the screen and will make a completely watertight seal. Solaglas or any big glazing company will sell it.

Blippie - let me know how the chassis goes - I've bit the bullet and am about to order a richards chassis - half 2.5TD, half TD5 (for a rear secondary tank)

what are you rebuilding? Saying that you'll probably not speak to me as I'm building a fake "Camel Toephy" ninety...

Practical Classic magazine did a test on Underbody coatings.

Dinitrol 4941 was best buy
Rustbuster epoxy 121 and Teroson underbody spray were recommended
Hammerite underbody seal Shutz was budget buy

Por 15 dint get a look in and only scored 9 out of 20.
