Hi all

My grandfather who is 84 currently pays £400 a year to insure his series 3. He only does about 1,000 miles a year. My parents renewed it this year and did use the usual comparison websites. Any good specialists out there who could do better? It is his only vehicle so I assume some classic policies might be out the question? He has had no accidents or speeding fines, in fact he probably hasn't done over 30mph for the last 20 years :)

Any advice appreciated.

Lancaster Insurance worth a shout,,, I am 42, with 6 points on licence last time I renewed and pay £106 inclusive of legal cover, european breakdown cover and with agreed valuation - I know your grandad is knocking on a bit (which some insurers may see as an increased risk) but £400 is ridiculous?

Adrian Flux are a very expensive in my opinion. I called them first and they quoted over £300 fully comp. for my S3. I called Lancaster Insurance and ended up paying £124 for the same. The guy at Adrian Flux got very arsey when I told him what Lancaster quoted. He even called back to have abother go! In case you are wondering, I made sure each quote was like for like.

no offence meant to his age but the insurers may think well, if he is 84 his reactions are slower, with it been a classic with no abs or driver aids, there is in there eyes a greater risk of and accident, im not trying to put you or him off beacuse they are great, but maybe if its been restored giving it an increased value and also the area he lives in could contribute to a more expensive insurance, (yes in 15 , no not really sure what im ona bout but thats my advice)
