Best Landy To Cope With Salt Water

Try and find an EX RNLI one they used to get wet a fair bit same as some Coast Guard ones and never really seen a rusty one!!!!

Salt water will not effect your wagon any more than any other water,












IF Its been protected correctly. your more likely to get problems with the electrics corroding than the body,

Eh?????? Are you serious???

1. RNLI ones are rarely used in water, if a boat needs launching then they use launch tractors. "if" a vehicle launches a boat then they will always try and find fresh water to launch or the vehicle is subjected to extreme washing off with fresh water afterwards.

2. Our last Coastguard Landrover was literally falling apart due to rust, the CG ones spend a lot of time on beaches etc and only recently (the last 10 years) have the CG management embraced the preventative maintenance ideas! (all vehicles get waxoiled every year now) When we took the Landrover back to Southampton and collected our new one it travelled the last 15 miles on the back of a truck cos it broke in half!!
There are very few Landrovers in CG service these days, most are Hilux's or Navara's.

3. Salt water is massively corrosive and MUCH MUCH MUCH more than fresh water, whoever told you that salt water won't do much damage was either lying or dreaming!!

Read the full text bud, if its protected then it doesnt matter what water it gets, tried it at college, two bits of identicle steel both primed and painted with industrial two pack the stuff they use on offshore installations, one in fresh water other in salt water from the beach, left ALL year very very little difference, the two untreated parts were a different story. :D:D

Only ever seen two CG LRs always been hiluxs or Ford mondeo's
 
Even with protection they will rust, just slower!

Especially if the water gets into the chassis and not flushed properly which is nigh impossible.

The last big batch of LR the CG had was put on the back of a large military order, LR won't deal on the quantities the CG need so thats why we have ended up with the Hilux and Navara's.

To be fair, the Hilux isn't too bad as long as it has decent tyres fitted, the Navara's are too wide for round my way with the narrow pembrokeshire gates.

One of SHBs bods told me they supply the army now, biggest buyer of LR in the world, he sed..

Ours had like a teranno or something similar for a while but recently noticed they have a hilux and new mondeo.

SHB are great was going to try and find out where they sell off their old stock.

I'm guessing you tested it on two sheets of metal. Try protecting every nook and cranny of a car. An analogy to compare it to: If you've ever seen car manufacturers paint cars, you will see the extremes that they go to. The whole bare body is literally picked up and dropped into a pool of paint. Imagine trying to do the same job with all other parts already in place, (fixed to the vehicle) it would be literally impossible to cover all of the parts that need protecting. And if they're not protected, they instantly become weak spots and as they say, rust is like cancer.

As someone who lives next to the beach, take my word for it salt spray etc is far worse than normal rain for causing corrosion. Nightmare trying to prevent it on vehicles.

Anyway, I have to buy a new jockey wheel every year cuz of bloody saltwater, it's a bugger I tell the - I've also seen the state of the shopping carts at the co-op in Barmouth and that's almost half a mile away from the sea. it's quite shocking what simple salt water can do to metal, even chromed and galved metal :eek:

Chrome is a waste of time, in the vw community there is a saying 'Chrome dont get you home' as loads of peeps put chrome every where and normally brake down :D:D

You thought about a 2 stage trailer??? One trailer which is designed to be moved by hand with the boat / jet ski on it then you winch / pull it up a road trailer for towing or are your vessels too big for this ???
