6 Ton Industrial Hydraulic Workshop/Garage/Shop Press NEW CT187 | eBay
Ta mate, think it would have to be 20 ton at least then we are set up for tractor repairs and all wheel bearings etc, probably use it quite a lot instead of struggling with heat and a vice
I just used busters thread and did it my garage without a press I heated the housing up and just hit it. Did take a while though.
I tried to get my ball joint out of its bracket with a press and put 25 tons on it and it wouldn't come out. It's distorted the bracket now, so I wouldn't want to refit it. I shall just carry on buying the ball joint and bracket complete kits when I need a new one in the future.
Buy a press anyway. Every home should have one. It's enabled me to breeze through suspension bush changes - squeeze them out effortlessly complete with their metal jackets - and propshaft joint changes. Remember when the artiste formerly known as Redhand had one that wouldn't come out? That wouldn't have been a problem in our house. One of mine didn't want to shift and I carried on pressing until the bearing cup shattered and it came out in pieces. So it hardly slowed me down at all.
After a month or two you'll wonder how you managed without one.
