Bespoke Modifications 2 my FL1

Hi all you Freelander Groupies, me being the best of us all.
I've just returned from the UK, having visited family & friends. Yeah, I know, all very boring. Good drinking buddies, though. lol

However, when I plan to visit the UK I always visit Ebay beforehand, buying everything under the sun for all kinds of projects associated with my FL1. I live in Spain and it's a desert for parts. I could get most things posted here, but the P&P equates to as much or even more than the original unit's cost. Sigh.

1. I'm about to install a bespoke Headlight Washing system, and all parts bought for under £11. I saw a FL2 with the same kind of (chunky) thing and thought I could do a lot better for much less. I've had cars that had them as a normal extra and they were most handy as well as beneficial.

2. Reversing sensors? As easy as drilling into a pie! I've got the kit (from China), which was inexpensive. My hire-car had them and they worked brilliantly. I'm hooked. Or is it... Beeped?

3. Rain & Wind Deflectors. Easy to install & well worth it.

I also bought a series of replacement sensors and more, including a nice shiny end-pipe extension to my exhaust. The reason for that is because there can be a sniff-sniff of exhaust when I have the rear-door window open in summer. The extra length of pipe should enable the exhaust to be carried away in the slipstream more-so than normal. Industry does the same for pollutants by building higher chimneys - called air-dispersal, or at least they used to. I'm just adopting their old but well tested methods.

I will be taking photo's, as well as recording what I need to do, such as drilling holes as well as selecting power supply wires, or whatever.
Watch this space.
And should I do more they will be included as well. I love the challenges. My FL1 - 2.

Are you running the headlight washers in conjunction with the front wipers, or sticking a second bottle and pump on?

I'm fitting a separate pump and controlling system. The existing reservoir will be shared.

Oh, I will show what EBay components I will be using as well as a report on its effectiveness.

I have a cheap set of reversing sensors on my SE, even though it's fitted with them as standard. It was cheaper to replace the whole system with an after market set, instead of replacing 1 OE sensor. My cheap kit is just as good as the factory setup, for a fraction of the cost.

sure cuts down wind noise with open windows

be interested to hear how that works out ..
could do with a fix to that issue myself
( have considered a side exit exhaust as a 'maybe' )

My new straight through box with it's downturn doesn't seem to allow fumes into the rear window. I assume it's because the gas speed is higher, without the restrictive silencer.

improved for me when i fitted similar backbox ..
but not completely ..
i stll get a whiff of exhaust at over 40 mph if the tailgate window is wide open
actually slightly more so after i did that air intake mod :-/
lowering the window just an inch works somewhat ..
having the cab blower on 4 .. as per LR advice .. works .. but it's noisy
taking note of the ambient wind direction also works

for me .. i.e. van body design ..
i could add some rear air vents to force air into the rear compartment / load space / dog palace
but that's more wind noise and no doubt noise issues for an open-close mechanism
.. might try adding a rear facing 12v fan ..
would help move AC air to the rear space as well


i still fancy a side exhaust and de-cat
but .. don't like the idea of exhaust pumping out towards pedestrians ..
specially small children .. and dogs ..

a suitable rear wind deflector Might help
( google articles sais they don't really help )
'n it would add more drag in any case
have come up with an idea for ..
high engine air intake scoop .. plus roof rack .. plus rear wind deflector ..
all in one unit ..
but would cost loads to fabricate and i've no use for a roof rack
