Disco 2 Bent Rear Step - Thoughts?

Okay, was reversing a trailer in the dark and got distracted - trailer jack-knifed and bent the rear step against the rear bumper; bumper is okay but step support bracket is bent quite badly.

The step, apart from having a bent support bracket is in great nick. I removed it, but not quite sure best way to proceed from here - not sure if the bracket can be removed and straightened? Any thoughts/ideas?

[Won't buy a new one - too expensive for something I don't often use.]

Doddle of a job if you've got a strong vice a stout iron bar and (maybe) some heat.
I don't own a disco so no idea how thick that steel is but the above will sort it regardless.

Seriously yes, just put the lower part in a vice and then fashion a long bit of wood or summat to lever the thing back into line. Shouldn't be too difficult!
Bet you swore a bit!

Yeah, I did swear a bit!!! Would buy a mounting bracket if I could, but looks like the unit is sold complete! Wanted to get the mounting bracket off first but it's held with two pins and not sure how to remove it so I can have a crack at straightening it? Would of course have to resecure the bracket once fixed with the same pins or similar.

For "long bit of wood" read scaffold pole.
Out of interest, how much do you use it? I don't have one although I did on the D1 which then had a ram that gave up the ghost, then rotted through.
Yours looks in good nick. I have also bought the sort of step that is sandwiched between the towing point and the tow ball, that works reasonably well.

Re fit it back on the car and ratchet strap it off a tree or big post back to straight

Did almost suggest summat a bit like that, but your idea is more reasonabl!
