Bearmach Hawkeye competition iCarsoft i930 diagnostic tool for Land Rover Jaguar and Range Rover

I think we need to have a sticky about how **** and pointless the Icar things are. Third thread in as many weeks.

Hawkeye or Nanocom. There is no other choice if you want something that will actually do what it says on the tin, for the TD5 anyway.

New member 7 posts, are they trying to sell it?

No knowleage of ICarsoft stuff. I have an Autel MS309 generic OBDII but a lot of cars are not OBDII compliant, TD5s are not for a start.

Now I tried my MS309 on the Discovery and it was useless, able to access one or two things but do nothing with them. For OBDII it was great, kept me mobile for a few weeks with a failed switch on an autobox, I just reset the codes as I drove. Got a new switch cleared codes great, had a misfire, 0301, coil pack on 135 had failed, replaced it.

But try it on a TD5, waste of time, I use my Hawkeye a lot, I can monitor the behaviour of the MAF, I can clear ABS faults (will need to do wiring mod nest year), cleared an airbag fault from when I had unplugged something. Found my bad starting recenly was not EMS related.
 
The Hawkeye is way overpriced bearing in mind its £260 to buy with 1 code, then £200+ thereafter per unlock code per vehicle.

If it was a one off price like the icarsoft device then fair enough, but it isnt, Bearmach are just cashing in because its made specifically for LR.

Just because something is expensive doesnt make it better than the competitor devices.

As for trying to sell it?? I was merely asking if anyone had the icarsoft cr plus or icarsoft i930 to hear any views on it. As from the research shows they do exactly the same as the Hawkeye, but without the extra costs of unlocking per LR vehicle model and work on more vehicles.

The i930 wont reset the oil and service lights and works on Jag and LR and RR , but the CR plus does reset oil and service and works on all vehicles.

The Nanocomm is also a similar price.

But with these devices the costs are in the software, that software is not a quick solution
 
I was just in a group buy for a Nanocom, cost me £220 delivered inc TD5 unlock code. Well worth every penny. Unlock codes range from £30 - £100 depending on the car i think
 
So I take it some people have responded about the icarsoft TF390 , what were its limitations regarding the non TD5 vehicles ? I have a Hawkeye, but was thinking that the tf390 was cheaper to buy than having to pay for two new unlock codes on the Hawkeye ?
 
After asking similar questions I have decided to go for a Hawkeye. Still cheaper than most even if you need to add software for different vehicles.

Question for 'johnlad' , you mentioned earlier you paid £85 for a Bearmach Hawkeye unlock code. Can you share the source? i.e web link , company name of who's doing it at that price?

I've searched and the going rate is £200 ~ £220 per unlock code

Icarsoft CR Plus tried and tested on a TD4 MK1, load of crap, lots of software issues and inconsistant readings compared to other diagnostic tools.

My advice stay clear of it!

Stick to the Hawk Eye / Hawk Eye Pro or AutoLogic devices.

Good - glad you've come round to our way of thinking! I've steered away from these budget generic devices because they don't talk to Land Rover adequately. The prices are high on Nanocom, Hawkeye, Lynx etc. because it takes a while to develop the code and the production and sales runs are relatively small. But compared to the price of taking your car to a garage and getting the codes read and cleared it's quite reasonable. Plus working at home you can adjust things and replace components and check if the fault codes come back as you work, so it's really convenient. Although it says one vehicle unlock code, it works on other similar models. My Defender TD5 unlock code enables me to read faults on my friend's TD5 as well, for example.

I've come to my own conclusion on these devices, and there are plenty of other landy owners using the icarsoft devices rather than the hawkeye. There isnt much difference between what the hawkeye can do and the icarsoft.

Its only a matter of time before the icarsoft software is updated to do exactly the same as the haweye, and its 90% already there. I'd say use an alternative device until this software issue has been sorted out properly.

I dont agree with the price of the hawkeye unlock codes , as i think its been mentioned before by many people, why pay for an unlock code for the software you've already paid for!

It should be unlocked instantaneously for all models of land rover vehicles, you shouldnt need to keep paying for unlock codes.

The buyer has already paid for the development of the software when they initially buy the product. The software for all land rover vehicles are in the device already and has reached a level whereby no further development is needed.

The cost of the unlock code is a marketing ploy to control what the buyer does with the device and the vehicles they can use it on. Bit like Apple and they way they control their customers on what you can put on your device when you've bought it.

I still like to know how 'johnlad' paid £85 for an unlock code.

Personally I'd only buy a pre used hawkeye thats already unlocked to the model I have. As for buying a pre used one with a different model, then having to pay for an unlock code to unlock it again, no chance, never, thats a blatant rip off!
 
Most DIY users will only ever require one unlock code, that's the one which was applied to the device when they purchased it for use on their own vehicle. They might in the future require a second unlock code when they upgrade to a new vehicle, but that's about all.

Those users who require a diagnostic device for use on ALL Land Rover products will usually require something more than a "DIY" diagnostic setup like Hawkeye or Nanocom.

Professional diagnostics will cost a vast amount more than a couple of unlock codes.
 
The work is in the software not the hardware.

A computer costs about £300 as an example, software I write is about £2000 a user or so, systems sell from around £5000 to £50,000.

This is years on mine, my bosses and a couple of other peoples work
 
Couple of updates, spoke to Bearmach directly about the cost of the unlock codes being around the £160 - £220 region from different 3rd party outlets.

They are looking into it as they advise me they shouldnt be that high!

Secondly about the icarsoft cr plus or similar icarsoft devices I posted about the possibility of some of the software was corrupt, causing incorrect live readings well I had an email back from the icarsoft headquarters in the USA, and their engineers now confirm there are 'bugs' with the current installed 'land rover freelander mk1 td4' software algorithims that read the live data, hence why when I had mine connected on the engine page the cylinder readings were all '0' engine running or not.

So if anyone has this device there should be a fix for the software in the future.
