Completely off topic this one but wondered if any one could help.
Desperately frustrated now!
I need a bearing but can't find the size. It seems to be like hen's teeth. Can anyone help!?

Internal diameter 22mm
External diameter 36mm
Thickness can be 10, 11, 12 or 13mm.

Doesn't sound like a size that might be difficult to locate.
I obtain bearings from our local bearing supplier, they tend to be cheaper than Fleebay and other sources and can advise on correct application and bearing type.
A quick Google flags up several bearing suppliers near you, I'd start with them.

Have you contacted simplybearings.co.uk

No 22 x 36 x "X" bearings on Simply Bearings. Nearest is 22 x 37 x 10

I've tried those close to me and simply bearings. I'm told it's not a standard size bearing.
Wonder if I could machine the sleeve by half a mm to make the 37 one fit?

What's the item?
Is it possible to obtain a replacement bearing from the manufacturer?
If all else fails then machining the housing is likely your only option.
 
Can you read a number off the bearing? I think i can see its French. Also how accurate is your measuring? Are you using a mic/caliper

It's off a 2004 Fiat Punto steering column(top bearing)
Main stealer don't sell it, only the whole complete column for £650+vat!

You are right, it is French but I can't read the other stuff.
Measured by a bearing specialist with a caliper thing.


I will try and get a closer photo.
 
I did find this but they only want to sell in bulk to the trade. All there contacts are Hong Kong and such.

It's a needle race by the looks of it. It's unlikely to be proprietary, so there must be one available.

It doesn't look to have fallen apart, so what is wrong with it?
 
its not unusual for bearings used in vehicle components have non std sizing at least in part so you cant get aftermarket replacements

I believe it's an angular contact bearing?

If you look closely the inner race is closer to the outer race on one side. When it spins you can see it spins of centre.
More importantly it came up as an advisory on its MOT for lateral movement on the steering wheel.
That Delkin looks like a fantastic option.
Where can I get one of those made up?

If it's an angular contact bearing, then the other bearing will also be an AC bearing, and they work in pairs, pushing against each other.
However if it is an AC, then you should be able to adjust the preload, and take out any axial and radial movement.

My lathe runs angular contact bearings, which do occasionally need periodic adjustment, just to keep play under measurable limits.


Pretty much anyone with a lathe could make up bushings in Delrin (acetal), so should be easy enough to find someone locally to make them.

I use Delrin when making low friction parts for air rifles.
 
I guess it's not an angular contact bearing then as there is only one bearing and is held against a shoulder on the sleeve by bending the tabs over.
There is no way of adjusting the preload.
I used to have an old Austin car with a plastic Bush for the top bearing so it's totally feesable and my favourite idea so far. Just need to find someone.
Out of curiousity should I do 22 Id and 36 ed or should I change it slightly to make it fit better.
Maybe 36mm to fit tight in the sleeve but make the internal diameter a fraction larger to make sure it still turns okay. Or maybe I don't need to?

As a quick footnote. I've just worked out the other writing on the bearing.
It is Nadella.
A French company.
It probably won't help as with most large companies they only want to deal with trade and multiple orders of quantity. Also there is no numbers on this bearing.....
