Hello guys it has been a while since posting on here, my 2005 defender has a noisy belt which is a bit concerning as I had it replaced last year, if I spray a little wd40 onto it whilst running it does stop the noise for a short while, I’m thinking that maybe one of the bearings is on its way out or the tensioner? I have just purchased the fan removal spanner’s because my lovely mechanic is always so busy ( and rightly so ) thought it would be a good idea to investigate myself and having the fan spanner’s is a good thing anyway right? Once the fan is removed is it quite a simple task to whip the belt off and check the bearings, crank pulley etc?

Thank you all

Take the fan off, take the belt off, check all bearings, pulley and belt tensioner and go from there.
If nothing is wrong then fit a new belt of a decent make.
Beat me to it ^

Thank you both very much the belt was a genuine one in Land Rover packet but now here is the but it was sat in my garage for about 3 years prior to this so maybe it deteriorated from not being used for them 3 years? How would I know if the belt tensioner is bad sorry if this is a silly question obviously it should spin nicely and not gritty but how would I know if it’s tensioning the belt correctly?

I'm not sure I have read about the tension being incorrect before.
My tensioner was a bit weird in the fact it would only have play in it when the pulley wheel was in a certain position. It basically felt fine unless you turned the pulley a little bit then there was obvious play.
I have read about aftermarket ones failing out of the box so fitted a genuine one.
