Beam Torque wrench/200tdi tensioner pulley

Lads, has anyone in the north Kent area got a beam type torque wrench I could borrow to do my 200tdi cam belt tensioner pulley? I can't seem to locate one with the right torque range for any reasonable price.

Alternatively, can I just tension it using my click wrench set at 18lb/ft and do up the bolt when it clicks?

Nah you can't use a click type torque wrench as it needs to be held on tension as you do it up and a clicker won't do that.

Sorry I don't have one to lend, I use a mates ££££ snap on one but he makes me go to his to use it sorry.

I just guess it, not too tight not too loose.

Park tools in the bike section at halfords.

Get hold of a spring balance and hook it on your socket bar 12" from the nut, and pull on it till it registers 18lbs, simples.

Loads of beam torque wrenches on eBay from £10 up which would do the job

All the ones on ebay seem to be the Draper 0-150ib/ft which is probably not a fine enough scale for measuring 18ib/ft. I think i'll have a go using my 0-30 click wrench and make a mark in the timing chest of the furthest point it gets to before the click, should be accurate enough to do the job.

I use a cheapo one from Draper as suggested above. I have lost count of the number of timing belts I have done over the past 15 years. All have held up well with no problems.

Probably a bit late by now but I prefer dial gauge torque wrenches for low value torques and tensioners, Got a couple of this design http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TORQUE-WR...em3d075ad0b9:g:UywAAOSwl9BWMR2O#ht_155wt_1275 available in 1/4, 3/8 & 1/2 and different ranges. Keep an eye out on eBay as they come up cheap every so often. Luckily I can check the calibration in work but never had any issues. Would be interesting to try a beam style to see what the accuracy & repeatability is but I wouldn't buy one as they seem to crude (and large).
