I don't think I've seen this covered, so here goes. Because I don't use my range very often ( maybe once a fortnight ), I'm always getting a flat battery .
Question 1, is that about right for the time involved ?
Question 2, I've bought one of those solar top up chargers that sit on the dash, now given the nature of the finicky p38, is it likely to play havoc with the alarm and becm sleeping ?.some senior advice would be appreciated before I connect and fail. Ta everso.
 
I'm still running the undersized Halfords battery that came with mine over three years ago and, although it can stand ignored for two weeks or longer, I've never had a flat battery. So I think that you have an issue.
As for the solar charger it shouldn't have any adverse effects on the car.
 
I use a cheap Aldi maintenance charger to keep my battery topped up when I'm away (min 3 weeks at a time). I leave a solar charger on my Clio in the Canaries when I'm back here, not had a problem with either.:)

As above or the battery is old and tired. Solar charger needs to be around 5 watts minimum rating to be useful as they rarely work at full output in the UK.

Covered several times, you need one hell of a long drive once a fortnight if you charge the battery up that way:D

Solar charger is alright, do a search for all the other posts
 
I've got one of the Lidl chargers that I connect when I put the car in the garage. I hadn't used it for a few weeks before Christmas -I didn't have it on charge-and I got the testbook symbol on the HVAC. Gave it a run and when I started it again it was ok.

Should really get a new battery as the one in it is nearly 8 years old.
